This involvement starts at an early stage. From the moment the rootstocks are imported in Morocco, Messem and Felgar are fully committed to growing the best strawberries and meeting the industry’s most pressing needs. Each farmer is audited by Messem’s agronomy team following an extensive FSA-based questionnaire. If approved, Messem and the farmer agree on a quality specification for the fresh strawberries, a positive list of pesticides, minimum hygiene standards and minimum standards of social compliancy. Messem also agrees to pay bonuses for meeting certain criteria for the total annual volume supplied, as well as additional quality standards.

Messem serves a global market and each country or destination has its own legislation on pesticide residues. Messem selects farmers who agree to use pesticides according Messem’s instructions. It goes without saying that accurate and reliable traceability is a crucial requirement for guaranteeing the compliance of the finished goods.
